Same time, last year, I was huddled in a blanket, music blasting at full volume in my ears and my eyes glued to my computer screen. Back then, I was writing about the new year and new resolutions and today, not much has changed.
I'm back again, writing on the same topic, being in the exact same situation. However, this time there's been a slight alteration in my views to the subject. Slight, yes.
One would think that a year would change us, right? I'm a year older, a year wiser? Hah, so you think. Even though I've gone through some drastic changes over the course of an year, I like to believe that overall, I'm still the same person that I was back then.
Last year, I told you to not beat yourself over not fulfilling your new year resolutions, this year, I'm going to tell you to not set them at all.
I mean, c'mon, we all are well aware of how sucky the year 2020 was. Was it the worst year of my life? I don't know, probably. Was it the worst year, in general, for the whole world? I don't know, probably. We all went through something, none of us had ever expected. No, I'm not talking about your heartbreaks, or your falling apart with your friends, or you becoming potentially jobless.
I'm talking about the pandemic. All of us lost someone or something that was very close to us. Something, that we possibly have no chance of getting back, no matter how hard we try. Whether it's the lost time you can't make up for or the lost people who are no longer in your life, the year managed to take a toll on all of us.
But like they say, every hurdle in your path, teaches you something.
Do you know what this year taught me? It taught me that life is unpredictable, we have absolutely no idea of what's going to happen even in the very next moment. Sure, there are plenty of astrologers out there who'd like to tell you otherwise, nevertheless we're smart enough to believe in what we see right?
(Now, I mean no disrespect to astrologers. Maybe there's some meaning behind the science of astrology too, a meaning that my small mind would never be able to comprehend, not even in a million years.)
Anyway, coming back to the topic, do you know apart from being uncertain, life is also short as hell?
Yeah man, your life is a shawty. (millennial reference, bear with me please)
Just like last year, The purpose of this post is to help you realize the importance of today, the importance of the time you have in your hands, right now.
Live everyday as if it's your last because what if it actually is? If there's one thing I've learnt from bolly-wood movies, it is that Kal Ho Na Ho.
Having put my thoughts out there, I hope 2021 is the year you get your life together and fulfill all your dreams.
Signing off,
Yours Flawed,
Gargi
