Why Suicide Isn't Selfish

Suicide is frequently perceived as a selfish act, however, this is an outdated and naive perspective. The truth is that suicide is a complicated issue that frequently arises from underlying mental health problems, a sense of helplessness, and a feeling of being imprisoned in unpleasant situations.

People who suffer from mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder may feel as though their misery is unbearable and overwhelming. They can think their loved ones would be better off without them or that they are a burden on society. These feelings and ideas are not selfish; they are a sign of a more serious mental health problem that needs to be addressed and cared for.

In addition, societal issues like discrimination, loneliness, and financial crisis may worsen frustration and hopelessness, making suicide seem like the only option. Focusing entirely on the notion that suicide is selfish can be ineffective and harmful since it can make people who are already struggling feel even more guilty and ashamed.

We need to tackle this issue with empathy and compassion rather than stigmatizing suicide and seeing it as a self-centered act. People battling self-harm need access to support and services to help them manage, and we need to acknowledge that suicide is frequently the result of intense emotional pain and trauma.

Access to tools and support is essential for those who are battling suicidal thoughts.

This includes having access to crisis hotlines, support groups, and mental health services. Additionally, we must seek to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness and build a society that prioritizes mental health and emotional well-being.

Suicide is not a selfish act, to put it briefly. It is a complicated and intensely personal matter that calls for compassion, comprehension, and dedication to helping those in need. We can save lives and build a society that is more compassionate and supportive if we approach suicide with compassion and a prevention-first mindset.
